ATLANTA, GA--On Tuesday, Midland Senator Seth Harp will introduce a bill that will let Georgia counties decide individually whether they will sell alcohol on Sundays.

“I don't know I’m just spoiled. I’ve been in this business 26 years and I like my Sundays off,” said business owner Richard Smith.

Richard Smith of Villa Nova Beverages in Columbus says he's opposed to the Sunday sales proposal from the start.

State Senator Seth Harp of Midland, sees it as a way to let counties make their own decisions, through the voters.

“We're simply saying local communities can make their own decisions,” Harp said.

Currently, the state of Georgia is dry on Sundays and Governor Sonny Perdue wants to keep it that way.

“I deeply respect his opinions and I have been very forthright with the sponsors and said please if it's offensive to you don't sign the thing,” Harp said.

Harp says selling alcohol on Sundays could generate 50 million dollars for the state. Richard Smith is excited about that prospect, but will wait it out to see what happens.

“There's nothing that says we have to open it if the laws passed. It's a business decision and we have to make it when the time comes,” Smith said.

News 3 spoke to Governor Sonny Perdue's office in Atlanta. His office indicated he is not in favor of the bill.
