Gwinnett County may get to sell beer on Sunday at its new baseball stadium after all.
The Senate amended a bill Tuesday that may provide the county with a
mechanism to sell beer on Sunday at games. The amended measure, House
Bill 1280, still must get the approval of the House before heading to
Gov. Sonny Perdue for his signature.
The bill allowing Sunday sales at the ballpark, which will be home
to the Atlanta Braves' top farm team, has been held hostage by attempts
to get the Senate to vote on Sunday package store sales of alcohol.
The Senate passed legislation allowing the Gwinnett stadium to sell beer on Sundays.
However, a House committee tacked on Sunday package store sales.
Senate leaders have refused for more than a year to allow a vote on
Sunday package store sales.
With the Gwinnett bill apparently going nowhere, senators tacked an
amendment Tuesday onto a minor House bill that could allow the county
to apply to the state for a stadium liquor license allowing Sunday beer
sales.
